A prison guard was shot dead as he was driving into the premises of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Jail in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, according to a 24 Oras report by Ivy Hernando on Wednesday.
CCTV footage showed a motorcycle rider waiting by the road going into the facility. When the victim’s vehicle arrived, the rider ran over and suddenly started shooting at the driver.
According to investigations conducted by the local police, victim Jayson Parchamento, 45, was shot seven times by a .45-caliber gun.
The suspect was able to get away.
“We already have suspects, persons of interest. We really fell short in providing security,” Ilocos Sur Police Acting Provincial Director Police Colonel Darnell Dulnuan said in Ilocano.
Meanwhile, the victim’s partner refused to comment while investigations regarding possible motives are still ongoing.
Police also declined to comment whether the shooting was related to the victim’s earlier dismissal from the police force.
Ilocos Sur Governor Jerry Singson, meanwhile, is raising concerns regarding the victim’s hiring and promotion to prison guard 3 at the Provincial Jail.
“It shouldn’t have happened. Now, I am ordering an investigation as to how the victim was able to work at the Provincial Government under my watch. I am also asking the Provincial Warden,” Singson said in Ilocano. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News
