For the first time in almost two years, Mycah Go is back on the NCAA taraflex.
The former women’s volleyball MVP saw action in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde‘s sweep victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Sunday to mark her comeback from a long layoff due to multiple injuries.
But the 23-year-old outside hitter admitted that there were a lot of nerves over her return to the league after overcoming ACL, meniscal tear, minor MCL, and LCL strain she sustained during a tuneup game in January 2023. The injuries came just months after the Lady Blazers ruled Season 97 in July 2022.
“Actually, kinakabahan talaga ako kasi syempre ang tagal ko rin pong hindi naglaro, ang tagal ko rin hindi alam ‘yung feeling na naglalaro… ‘Yun talaga nafi-feel ko ngayon,” Go told the media following their 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 win at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
[Actually, I was nervous because I haven’t played in a long time. I haven’t known how it feels like to play… That’s how I feel right now.]
Go, though, shared she has yet to reach her top form and said she remains in recovery but is good to go for the Taft crew as they look to complete a rare three-peat for the school.
“60-percent. I think so [hindi pa talaga fully recovered]. Actually, pinapalakas na lang po pero same pa rin, sa left knee pa rin,” she added.
[60-percent. I think I’m not really fully recovered. Actually, I’m still building strength but it’s the same, it’s still my left knee.]
Go had a brief appearance in their opening day win against the Lady Generals. She rode the bench in the first set and was only inserted late in the second set. She was also not seen in the third and final frame as their younger guns took care of the job with veterans Mich Gamit and Gayle Pascual providing the leadership.
Go said she didn’t mind not being on the floor in the crucial moments, especially during EAC’s third quarter surge that posed a threat to their straight sets romp.
“Lagi namin sinasabi na ‘yung kalaban namin is ‘yung sarili namin so I think ‘yun ‘yung nangyari sa third set, which is ‘yun dapat ‘yung iniiwasan namin, ‘yung mag-relax or masyadong feel namin na okay na pero ‘di pa naman tapos ‘yung game,” Go said.
[We always say that our real opponents are ourselves so I think that’s what happened in the third set, which is what we we’re hoping to avoid, to relax and feel like it’s already ok but the game wasn’t over.]
With Go still not fully recovered, Wielyn Estoque and Jessa Dorog stepped up with eight and five points apiece while Gamit and Pascual led the way with 10 and eight markers each.
“I think ‘yun ‘yung gusto namin sa team, ‘yung lahat makakalaro. Gusto namin i-expose lahat para hindi kami masyadong babad, masyadong gamit na gamit para hindi rin kaming mapagod and para at least balanced din kami.”
[I think that’s what we like with this team, everyone can play. We want everyone to get exposed so no one has to play too long and get fatigued and at least we can be balanced.]
