TOKYO — Former super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas received an unexpected visitor a day before his fight against WBA world bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue on Saturday, February 24 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

Ancajas, hoping to become a two-division world champion, was visited by former four-division champion Donnie Nietes, who expressed his unwavering support for his fellow Filipino.

“I am happy because Donnie is a legend. Like he said, he wants to support boxers and that is the same with me. The support from one boxer to another is valuable,” Ancajas said.

Nietes, one of the longest reigning champions in Philippine boxing history, is currently in Japan for a vacation. For him, Ancajas will earn a victory against the younger Inoue.

“One hundred percent, Jerwin will win. I saw how he gave his all in training and how he sparred with bigger sparring partners. As a former four-division world champion, I hope to give strength and inspiration to win his title fight tomorrow,” Nietes said.
