FOR COLLECTING ‘REVOLUTIONARY FUNDS’

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday said two individuals have been charged for allegedly collecting revolutionary funds and financing terrorism.

In a statement, the DOJ said there were compelling evidence to indict the two alleged members of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

The two personalities are charged for violation of Section 8 of the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012, the DOJ said.

“We will never let even an inch of terrorism’s tyranny sow fear among our citizens, much more let the cowards behind this menace run free. This is a time when we Filipinos should fortify our resolve and show our resilience in fighting this evil,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

“If proven guilty, we will not let them go unpunished,” he added.

Police received information that the two were possessing firearms and ammunition with no definite source of income or apparent purpose, according to the DOJ.

They also conducted background checks on them.

Authorities asked for the court’s issuance of search warrants against the two with the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).

Firearms, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), IED components, and a significant sum of money in various denominations were recovered from the two personalities, the DOJ said.

According to the DOJ, the two were supposedly members of the National Finance Commission of the CPP-NPA, which is allegedly asking for money from private companies and businessmen.

The two were also behind the creation of the National Economic Striking Force (NESF) of the CPP/NPA which serves as security of the “Rebolusyonaryong Buwis sa Kaaway na Uri”, the DOJ said. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
