The Department of Transportation has started a campaign to go after ambulances carrying paying commuters or vacationers instead of patients to the hospital to stop the misuse of the emergency vehicles.
According to Joseph Morong’s report on “24 Oras,” the DOTr Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) warned of multiple charges against individuals using ambulances for non-emergency situations.
Rosario said apprehended persons will face charges for violating Presidential Decree No. 98 which prohibits the use of emergency sirens or wang-wang in unauthorized vehicles.
The Department of Health (DOH), which accredits ambulances, said only ambulances are allowed to use blinkers and sirens and not patient transport service units.
“Ito yung mga non-emergency cases kunyari ‘yung mga matatanda. ‘Yung mga kailangan nang magpa-dialysis. Tutulungan nila,” Dr. Alfonso Favis of DOH said.
(These are non-emergency cases.)
The DOTr-SAICT will consult with the Department of the Interior and Local Government before enforcing the crackdown. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA Integrated News
