MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was arrested after he allegedly shot to death a motorcycle rider in Parañaque City on Saturday.
Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., National Capital Region Police Office director, identified the suspect as Pat. Jayrome Licuanan, who is assigned with the mobile patrol security unit of the Aviation Security Group.
Licuanan allegedly killed a motorcycle rider along C5 Road in Barangay San Dionisio at around 6:48 a.m.
Nartatez told reporters in a message on Viber that the victim, Neil Wong, was about to ride his motorcycle when Licuanan pulled out his service firearm and shot him multiple times.
Wong died at the scene. Licuanan tried to escape but a policeman who was informed by a concerned citizen about the shooting responded and arrested him.
A 9mm handgun, a tactical bag and a police identification card were recovered from Licuanan.
Policemen also found the victim’s cell phone in Licuanan’s possession.
The suspect was brought to the San Dionisio sub-station. A police investigator said in a phone interview that they are still looking into the suspect’s motive for killing the victim.
