At least 17 people died, including one child, in a collision between a dump truck and a utility van in Antipas, Cotabato on Monday, according to a report on “State of the Nation” on Monday.

Earlier, Carlo Mateo’s dzBB Super Radyo report, the truck – which was carrying a load of gravel – was traversing a portion of a road along Barangay Luhong when it hit the van.

The collision resulted in the utility van catching fire, leading to the death of the passengers who were engulfed in flames.

Three victims survived the crash but sustained major burns and injuries. They were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical assistance.

Police Captain Godofredo Tupas II, Antipas Police chief, confirmed the tragic incident and said they are still investigating the case.

Meanwhile, the Antipas Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office and PNP have yet to release the official data on the incident, according to Tina Panganiban-Perez’s “24 Oras” report.

Davao de Oro

A conductor died while 22 were hurt in a collision between a passenger bus and a container van in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

An investigation showed the bus driver rear-ended the container van after failing to notice the parked vehicle.

The container van stopped on the inner side of the road after encountering engine problems.

The injured victims were rushed to hospital.

Police are still investigating the case to determine who was liable between the two drivers, both of whom were in police custody. — DVM/BAP, GMA Integrated News
