Child abuse charges have been filed against Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Apollo Quiboloy, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Tuesday.

In a statement, the DOJ said Quiboloy faces charges under Section 5(b) of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act and under Section 10(a) of the same act before a Davao court.

The DOJ said charges were also filed against Jackielyn W. Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid C. Canada, and Sylvia Cemane.

Meanwhile, the department said the same individuals are also facing Qualified Human Trafficking charges under Section 4 (a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended, pursuant to the Resolution promulgated before a Pasig court.

“The Department of Justice is dedicated to the enforcement of our laws and the protection of our children from exploitation and abuse,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement.

“This case underscores our commitment to hold accountable those who would harm our society’s most vulnerable. Let this serve as a reminder that no individual, regardless of their position, is above the law,” he added.

GMA News Online has sought comment from Quiboloy’s camp but has yet to receive a response as of posting time.

Earlier, the Senate officially released an arrest order against Quiboloy for “unduly refusing to appear, despite due notices” at the hearings of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality.

In early March, a California court ordered the unsealing of the arrest warrants against Quiboloy and his co-accused in the KOJC leader’s case, which involves charges of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, coercion, sex trafficking of children, conspiracy, and cash smuggling.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
