At least 55 fire incidents have occurred in Camarines Sur since the start of 2024 or 21 cases more than the 34 incidents recorded in the same period in 2023.

“Talagang mataas kung ikukumpara natin. Yung total ng last year kasi same period is 34 tapos ngayon naging 55, tumaas siya ng 61 percent,” said FCI Gerald Lavadia, Deputy Provincial Fire Marshal of BFP Camarines Sur.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the most common causes include problematic electrical connections, appliances overheating, and cooking left unattended.

With temperatures getting hotter because of El Niño, the bureau called on the public to be extra careful to avoid fire incidents.

The latest incidents in the province happened in two consecutive days.

On February 26, 2024, a grassfire in Barangay San Ramon in Siruma town affected up to two hectares of grassland.

Authorities are assessing the extend of damage, as of this writing.

The day after, on February 27, a fire razed a house in Barangay Santo Niño Quipayo in the town of Calabanga.

According to BFP-Calabanga, the fire may have been caused by defective electrical connection.

On the same day in Pamplona town, fire broke out at a portion of a motorpool of a bus company  in Barangay Salvacion.

Firefighters said a fire that was lit in the area may have caused the incident. GMA Regional TV
