VP Sara on Araw ng Kagitingan: Take to heart lessons of history

In commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan, Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday called on Filipinos to take to heart the lessons from our history and emulate the bravery and heroism of war veterans. 

Duterte, in a video message, said that the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education (DepEd) which she serves as secretary, seek to teach and make every Filipino child appreciate history and the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of the Philippines. 

“Sila ay natatanging halimbawa ng tapang at pagmamahal sa bayan. Ang kanilang hangarin na ipagtanggol ang dangal at integridad ng ating bansa sa panahon ng digmaan ay inspirasyon na dapat nating tularan at alagaan,” the Vice President said.

(They exemplify courage and love for the country. Their desire to defend the honor and integrity of our country during the war is an inspiration that we must emulate and cherish.)  

“Kaya’t patuloy nating isapuso at tutukan ang mga aral ng ating kasaysayan,” she added. 

(We should thus continue to take to heart the lessons from our history.) 

Duterte also said that she is one with the nation in paying tribute to the sacrifices made by the Filipino World War II veterans for the sake of the country. 

The Araw ng Kagitingan, or Day of Valor, commemorates the Fall of Bataan, which happened on April 9, 1942, to remember the thousands of Filipinos who dedicated their lives to freeing the Philippines during World War II. —Giselle Ommbay/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
