The Ukrainian government is spending half a billion euros on constructing three lines of defence at least along the 2,000 kilometres of frontline as fast as possible. The military is building the first line of defence, but further back, countless construction firms are engaged in preparing Ukraine’s defences. Regional governments are responsible for building the systems and for hiring civilian contractors. As the construction progresses, opposition parties are accusing the authorities for failing to build the fortification much earlier. FRANCE 24 reports.
