UAAP: Final Four-bound NU, FEU edge Adamson, UP to bolster twice-to-beat bid thumbnail


Final Four-bound teams National University and Far Eastern University eked out all-important wins on Saturday to boost their respective bids for a twice-to-beat bonus in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs reclaimed the solo top spot after sweeping Adamson University, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18, and secured at least a playoff for the incentive while FEU pulled off a 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21 victory against University of the Philippines to stay in hunt for the bonus.

Veterans Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon led NU with 14 points each while Vange Alinsug and Sheena Toring chipped in nine and eight markers apiece, helping NU improve to 11-2.

The also-ran Lady Falcons fell to 3-10 with Ayesha Juegos, Red Bascon, and Ishie Lalongisip pacing the squad in the losing effort.

Meanwhile, red-hot FEU banked on many heroes with Faida Bakanke churning out a team-high 19 points anchored on 16 attacks, one ace, and two blocks while Chenie Tagaod chipped in 13 markers.

FEU has extended its winning streak to five to hike its standing to 9-4 at the fourth spot.

UP, who stumbled to a 1-12 card, banked on Steph Bustrillo, who churned out 16 points while Niña Ytang posted 15 points on 11 spikes, two blocks, and two aces.
