Some days are just made for throwing away the rule book and seeing where your restless feet will take you. In restaurateur Peter Zwiener’s case, it’s Boracay.

“My business partner, restauranteur Raymund Magdaluyo, invited me to go on a one-day trip to Boracay,” shares Peter while enjoying Bora’s cool breeze. “Every time I come to the Philippines, he would show me around. We spent overnight in Station 1, and on our way back to the airport, he asked me if I wanted to check out Megaworld’s latest development on the island.”

Peter is the president and co-founder of Wolfgang’s Steakhouse.

Curious, Peter agreed. Raymund gave him a quick tour of Boracay Newcoast, a 150-hectare township hailed as one of the world’s best island destinations by Conde Nast Traveler last year. And a few steps from Belmont Hotel, Raymund showed him a spot with the W logo.

And that same spot is where we had this interview: at the newly opened Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Grill in Boracay Newcoast.

“It was love at first sight. So, when Raymund showed me the location, I said yes right away,” enthuses Peter.

According to Peter, the concept of having a steakhouse on the beach is not foreign to him.

“Wolfgang’s Steakhouse is in Waikiki Beach as well,” he says. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. There are so many people who go on beach vacations and they’re looking for a place where they can have a good and decent meal, too. It works in Waikiki and I’m sure it’s going to be a hit here as well.”

We arrived at Boracay Newcoast just in time for the welcome beach dinner hosted by Wolfgang’s Steakhouse and Grill. Peter, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Philippines lead partner Raymund Magdaluyo and Wolfgang’s Steakhouse VP of operations Lydia D’ Amato made sure that everyone enjoyed the excellent spread and live entertainment.

Dine with a (sea) view

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Grill introduces a new concept that extends beyond the classic steakhouse fare, offering a diverse menu of grill favorites.

“Compared to Wolfgang’s Steakhouse which is very strict, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Grill leaves more creativity to the chef. Here, we can introduce new items on the menu. We can’t do that at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse,” explains Peter.

Wolfgang Steakhouse and Grill not only elevates the dining scene in one of the most iconic beach destinations in the world; it sure “meats” a steak lover’s expectations, too!

The grill serves other cuts of meats such as the Charbroiled Flank Steak that’s way cheaper than the USDA Prime Cuts.

The steakhouse offers a gorgeous view of the sea. The interiors exude laidback elegance and coastal charm with its wooden walls and tables, and cushioned leather seats to create a serene ambience. Right as you enter, you’ll see the marble bar — offering a meticulously crafted cocktails like Guava Caipirinha and the refreshing Lilikoi Margarita — and the wine cellar. The place is compact and intimate. There’s also al fresco dining for those who want to take in the ocean breeze.

On the menu, you’ll find a variety of grill specialties and beach specials.

Here, diners will only get strictly USDA Prime Black Angus beef, which is dry-aged in its own propriety designed aging room under a controlled temperature and humidity environment for an average of 28 days.

What’s so special about this branch is that here, diners can opt for the Boracay exclusives like the Beach Tacos, Bitterballen, a crunchy croquette stuffed with beef, horseradish cream, and the restaurant’s signature peppercorn sauce as dip, among other delicious treats.

“We have a local chef, Chris, who knows my heritage. I’m half-German, half-Peruvian. And so, there’s a lot of Peruvian-inspired dishes like the Ceviche Sampler — sea scallops, yellowfin tuna, and red snapper; and Parihuela, a traditional Peruvian seafood soup,” Peter adds.

But the stars of the menu remain: the signature prime steaks such as the Porterhouse and Tomahawk served on a heated ceramic platter with salted butter. Both go well with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, the classic and most perfect pairing to my steak.

On the table, you’ll find Wolfgang Steakhouse Sauce, a tomato-based sauce with a hint of horseradish. This sauce is meant for everything but the steak!
