Taylor Swift and Post Malone explore tragedy in ‘Fortnight’ music video

The Tortured Poets met the Dead Poets Society in Taylor Swift’s music video for “Fortnight.”

In the first single and music video from her newest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” Taylor—who was the director and writer—explores themes of tragedy and complicated love.

The black-and-white MV opens with Taylor tied to a hospital bed. When she takes her medicine, she wipes her face to reveal Post Malone’s tattoos.

Taylor and Post Malone then find themselves in different situations, such as sending messages to each other through typewriter and sharing sweet moments along a highway with letters flying around them.

When Taylor gets examined in a lab, top actors and “Dead Poets Society” stars Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles make cameos as scientists.

On Instagram, Taylor said the video has special meanings related to “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“When I was writing the Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music,” she said.

“Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another. For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it,” she added.

Taylor also praised her collaborators.

“@postmalone blew me away on set as our tortured tragic hero and I’m so grateful to him for everything he put into this collaboration. I’m still laughing from getting to work with the coolest guys on earth, @ethanhawke and @mrjoshcharles (tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets),” she said.

“The Tortured Poets Department” is what Taylor calls “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

Two hours after the release of “TTPD,” Taylor released its second part with 15 new songs, titled “The Anthology.”

Taylor first revealed “The Tortured Poets Department” in February when she won her 13th Grammy Award. Later that month, she announced the bonus track, “The Bolter.”

Taylor recently finished the Asian leg of The Eras Tour, which started in support of her 2022 album, “Midnights.” She is set to start the European tour in May.

Aside from “Midnights,” the popstar dropped the Taylor’s Version of her album “1989” in October 2023. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
