St. Stephen's, MGC-New Life earn outright semis spots in PCYAA Season 11 thumbnail


St. Stephen’s High School and MGC-New Life Christian Academy earned outright semifinal berths, along with twice-to-beat bonuses, as they finished in the top two of the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Season 11 high school basketball tournament.

The Stephenians had a 6-1 record in the eliminations as they fell to Uno High School, 71-48, in their final game. St. Stephen’s is led by the trio of Sam Jarone Ng, Bryle Gareth Teng, and Josh Cedrick Ong.

The New Lifers, meanwhile, won against Uno, 75-62, in the second place playoff on Tuesday to earn the second semis berth as they finished with a 5-2 slate. MGC is bannered by Adam Keith Uy and Karl Bryan Yue.

Uno, meanwhile, placed third but will still have a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals where it will face no. 6 Philippine Cultural College (2-5). The winner of the series will face the New Lifers in the semis.

No. 4 team St. Jude Catholic School, who had a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarters, defeated the Jubilee Christian Academy to also advance to the semifinals.

Pace Academy (2-5) and Grace Christian College (0-7) have been eliminated from contention.

PCYAA will take a break to give way to academic requirements before resuming the rest of the playoffs.
