Drag artist Pura Luka Vega was again arrested on Thursday due to complaints over their viral “Ama Namin” performance.
On X (formerly Twitter), “Drag Den Philippines” director Rod Singh said Luka was arrested “after a QC court issued a warrant of arrest for three counts of the same crime.”
“This stemmed from a complaint filed against them by three churches affiliated with the Philippines for Jesus Movement,” Singh said. “The recommended bail is 360,000 pesos.”
Singh’s statement also revealed that Luka posted bail amounting to P720,000 on February 26 in Pasay City “after the city prosecutor found partial merit in the complaint filed by the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.”
The posted bail was for six counts of Violation of Article 201 (immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibition, and indecent shows) of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
In October last year, Pura Luka Vega was arrested after complaints were filed against them due to their viral “Ama Namin” performance posted on social media in July.
While Luka was behind bars, their fellow drag artists mounted a fundraising show to help with the bail. After the event, the show raised P892,975.60 in donations.
Luka was released on bail after three days in jail.
In December, Luka celebrated the dismissal of “at least one” case filed against them.
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, Luka said that their “intent was to embody a version of Christ that is one with the queer audience.”
