Investigators are looking into money and personal grudge as among the possible motives behind the killing of a balikbayan mother and her daughter in Tayabas, Quezon.

In a press conference on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said they have identified four persons of interest in the killing, two of them relatives of the victims.

“Ang isang tinitignan po natin is personal grudge and possibly money matters po. Isa po iyan sa ilang tinitignan ng ating imbestigador po,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said.

(We are looking at personal grudge and possibly money matters. Those are among the motives the investigators are looking at.)

“It was reported po na merong dalang pera itong biktima natin when they arrived from Japan po,” she added.

(It was reported that the victim was carrying money when they arrived from Japan.)

The investigation into the killing of mother and daughter is going well, according to Fajardo.

Authorities said they will file complaints against the perpetrators once the collection of evidence is completed. At present, the police are waiting for a search warrant to process the home where the bodies of the two victims were found.

On February 21, the victims were initially reported missing. On March 14, their bodies were found in the backyard of a family member.

Admitting to the crime, the sister of the elder victim told the police that she and three more suspects, among them her husband, killed the victims by beating and stabbing them.

Tayabas police said the suspect is now under their custody.

She was brought to a hospital after she attempted to commit suicide when she reportedly learned that the bodies of the victims have been found, according to the police.

A special investigation task group (SITG) has been activated to investigate into the killing. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
