The Philippine Coast Guard reported that it monitored 62,677 outbound passengers and 45,544 inbound passengers over the whole country on Black Saturday.

In its situation report, the PCG said that the number of passengers monitored was from 6 a.m. up to noon.

The PCG also deployed 3,838 of its personnel in 15 PCG districts to conduct maritime safety operations.

Coast guardsmen inspected 573 vessels and 1,547 motor bancas.

The PCG had placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert from March 24 to 31 to facilitate the influx of port passengers.

Coast Guard Working Dogs also participated in inspections at the Davao International Airport.

The PCG said it aimed for zero maritime casualties as its units made preparations for the 2024 Holy Week. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
