Westbound lanes on VT Bridge to close March 28-30
Vincent Thomas Bridge’s westbound lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, March 28, to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 30 for structural inspections of the main cable bands along the bridge’s suspension cables.
An additional weekend closure of the westbound lanes may be required the weekend of April 4, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) that is conducting the inspections on the State Route 47 (SR 47).
Westbound lanes travel from Long Beach-Terminal Island into San Pedro.
Westbound SR 47 will be closed at the Ferry Street off-ramp. Traffic will be diverted to State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway (SR 1) from Interstate 710. Motorists may also access Pacific Coast Highway via SR 47, Henry Ford Avenue and northbound Alameda Street. Detoured traffic will be directed to Interstate 110 from SR 1.
Caltrans urged motorists to avoid the closure and use alternate routes where possible.
A separate, unrelated project to replace the bridge road deck will close the structure completely for 16 months beginning in summer 2026.
