Palace debunks Marcos 'bleeding gums' concerns
MALACAÑANG on Friday assured the public that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is in good health after a viral video circulated online claiming that his gums were bleeding during a public event.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said she met with the President in Malacañang on Thursday morning.
"I did not see anything that might indicate that there was something wrong with his health," Castro said.
The video clip of Marcos during a speech at the Paggunita sa mga Bayani sa Araw ng Kagitingan and the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program ceremony in Quezon City on April 9 triggered speculations about the 67-year-old President's health.
But Castro said there were no indicators that Marcos was in poor health.
She said that the President has been attending meetings and joining proclamation rallies of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.
"You will notice, maybe even the media, that you see the President almost every day in his activities and in the campaign rallies of Alyansa. He also has meetings with us," Castro said during a press briefing on Friday.
If there was something wrong with the President's health, "he probably will not be able to fulfill his daily duties," she added.
Castro advised the public to stop speculating on the President's health.
"And my appeal to fake news peddlers, do not make an issue about the President's health. That will not do any good to the country," she said.
"We should pray for the health of our leaders and avoid making speculations, those in social media are acting like doctors even when they are not," Castro said.
The President was in Maguindanao del Norte on Friday, where he led the ceremonial signing of the memorandum order, authorizing the National Amnesty Commission to issue "safe conduct pass" to amnesty applicants.
Marcos also visited troops in the 6th Infantry "Kampilan" Division at the Camp Brig. Gen. Gonzalo H. Siongco in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.
The President also led the launching of the Agri-Puhunan at Pantawid (APP) Program at the Sarangani Gymnasium in Alabel, Sarangani.
In his speech, he said that APP beneficiaries may borrow up to P60,000 at a low interest rate of 2 percent per year and would also receive a monthly allowance of P8,000 for four months.
On top of the APP Program, Marcos said the P3 billion earmarked for the Rice Competitive Enhancement Fund in 2024 has benefited more than 17,700 farmers and 331 agricultural cooperatives.
He said that in 2024, nearly 19,000 farmers and fishers, and 112 enterprises borrowed P1.7 billion through the Agricultural Credit Policy Council's Agri-Negosyo Loan Program, Survival and Recovery Assistance Program, and Young Agripreneurs Loan Program.
