NCRPO deploys over 10K policemen for Holy Week
THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has launched a large-scale security operation across Metro Manila for the Holy Week, deploying more than 10,000 forces to ensure public safety in places of worship, transport terminals and other high-traffic areas.
According to NCRPO, police visibility will be heightened in more than 300 churches with the deployment of 1,071 personnel.
Meanwhile, 791 personnel have been assigned to manage traffic in major roads, 399 are stationed at key transport hubs, and 592 will secure malls and commercial centers. Another 982 officers will be on duty in parks and popular recreational sites.
In addition to these deployments, 2,068 officers will be conducting foot patrols in high-density areas, while 647 officers have been assigned to man checkpoints. Another 286 are stationed in various entry points to Metro Manila.
Covert "Red Teams" composed of 201 personnel have also been activated to conduct discreet security assessments throughout the region.
To ensure swift response to any incidents, 1,993 officers will be operating mobile and motorcycle patrol units. A reserve force of 1,334 Reactionary Standby Support Force members is also on standby for emergency situations.
NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. underscored the importance of vigilance and dedication among police personnel during the weeklong religious observance.
"We have ordered 24/7 strict and flexible security coverage for Metro Manila during the Holy Week. I expect every police officer's full commitment to their assigned tasks. Together with the senior officers of NCRPO, I will be on the ground to ensure the prompt and proper delivery of police services, all toward our shared goal of ensuring a safe, secure and solemn Holy Week [observance]," Nartatez said.
The NCRPO also encouraged the public to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official hotlines.
