Over 20K students to retake admission exam after ‘leakage’ in Visayas university

Over 20,000 students at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) in Iloilo City will have to retake the admission examinations after the school management discovered a possible leakage of the test questions.

According to a “24 Oras” report by Tina Panganiban-Perez,” Iloilo Representative Janette Garin, a member of WVSU’s board of regents, raised the possibility of the leakage based on their initial investigation.

“It’s not yet 100% confirmed, but it is gearing towards that direction, that during that pilot testing, probably in Roxas or somewhere, may nag-picture ng (someone took a picture of the) pilot test. And that was leaked,” Garin said.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang imbestigasyon. Kung sino ang dapat managot, mananagot. (The investigation is ongoing. Whoever is responsible for this will be held accountable.),” she added.

WVSU president Joselito Villaruz has also announced that they will release the investigation results this week as the school has sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation.

“I put forward the proposal of a possible retake, and everybody agreed. Chances are the retake will be mid-April. Magkakaroon ng maraming venues. (There will be many venues.) They will be coordinating with the local governments, the universities, and other schools throughout Region 6. Walang bayad yan. (That’s free.)” said Garin.

The students’ reactions, however, are divided.

“Nakakapagod. Pero kukuha pa rin ako. Kailangan talaga kasi gusto kong magka-ano, sa future ko,” said a student.

(It’s tiring. But I’ll take it again anyway. It’s necessary because I want to have something for my future.)

“Gagastos na naman sa pamasahe. Magta-travel na naman ulit mula sa bayan papunta sa West. Mahirap para sa amin” said another.
