One person was killed while 22 were injured when a passenger bus heading to Butuan City collided with a container truck parked along a national highway in Davao de Oro early on Sunday.
Initial reports available indicate that the collision occurred past 4 a.m. on Sunday in Purok 9 in Barangay Baylo in Monkayo, Davao de Oro. The bus was on its way from Davao City, while the truck had stopped on the road due to an engine malfunction.
The bus conductor, identified as 32-year-old Riann Mamusog, was killed. The 22 injured were brought to the Davao de Oro provincial hospital for treatment.
According to Monkayo Police traffic investigator PCPL Mark Lozarita, initial investigation found that there were no clear sign that the truck was parked along the highway.
“Base sa investigation, ang signage ng container van, hindi ganoon kaklaro sa kalsada. Naglagay kasi siya ng improvised na signage gamit ang dahon kaya ayun, nabulaga ang driver ng bus,” he said in the local language in a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao’s Kent Abrigana on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.
(Based on the investigation, the signage of the container van was not clear from the road. He placed an improvised signage using leaves which was why the driver of the bus was surprised.)
The drivers of both vehicles were brought to the Monkayo Municipal Police Station for investigation, and to determine who would be liable for the accident. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
