Nancy Binay hopes lesson learned over Mariel Padilla’s drip session at Senate

Senator Nancy Binay expressed hope Tuesday lesson has been learned as she accepted the apology issued by Senator Robin Padilla over the controversial drip session of his wife Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla inside his office in the Senate.

“Tungkulin natin na pangalagaan ang integridad ng Senado. Nawa’y maging aral sa ating lahat ang nangyaring insidente,” Binay said in a letter to Padilla.

(It is our responsibility to protect the integrity of the Senate. I hope lesson has been learned from this incident.)

Binay, Senate ethics committee chairperson, earlier said she was bothered by the Rodriguez-Padilla receiving drip session at a Senate office.

“I’m not sure if the Ethics Committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel. But we also need to closely look into it because it involves issues of conduct, integrity, and reputation of the Institution and matters that concern health and safety,” she said.

“Nakaka-bother lang dahil yung IV procedure was done inside the Senate premises na walang abiso mula sa clinic,” Binay added. 

(It’s bothersome that the IV procedure was done inside the Senate without advice from the clinic.)

In a now deleted post, Mariel said she was going to be late for her appointment so she decided to do the procedure inside the senator’s office.

Padilla also wrote to Senate’s Medical and Dental Bureau chief Dr. Renato DG Sison and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms retired Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan on Monday to apologize and explain that it was not his wife’s intention to breach any Senate protocols.

Mariel also apologized to the Senate and the public over the incident.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
