A 17-year-old girl and her six-day-old baby were burned to death when a fire razed their home in Barangay Sicayab, Dipolog City.
Authorities said the mother was sleeping when the fire broke out. The fire reportedly spread quickly because the house was made of light materials.
The child’s father was not home at that time.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Dipolog said firefighters had a hard time getting to the area since the location is remote.
“At 4:30 a.m., gi-salvage namo ang lugar. Nakakita mi og resemblance sa corpse. Na-confirm sa SOCO nga body siya sa mag-ina,” BFP-Dipolog Spokesperson, FO1 Van Jason Crisostomo, said.
Investigators said a lamp that was left unattended may have caused the fire.
The local government has provided assistance to the family of the victims. —GMA Regional TV
