More than 200 families were displaced after two fire incidents hit Barangay 76A Bucana in Davao City on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

The fire broke out at around 1 p.m. at Muslim Village, Purok 26, Times Beach and was put out at 2 p.m. Around four hours later, another fire broke out at Purok 4 Bucana Seawall.

Fire victims are taking shelter temporarily at the covered court in Purok 4, covered court at Slum Improvement Resettlement (SIR) gymnasium and at a mosque.

Fire investigators are looking into electrical overloading and electric fan left unplugged as possible cause of the fire in Purok 26 and Purok 4, respectively.

Barangay officials will convene to look for ways to assist and help the fire victims.

The barangay chairman also expressed his dismay over the supposed non-dispensation of food assistance from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

“Ila kong gitawagan nga barangay daw magpakaon ana ingon ko wala nila huna hunaa dili man na easy lang withdrawhon ang kwarta intended diha daghang proseso pana. Nganong ilang taguan kung naa man galing stock sa gobyerno man dapat naa man koy community cook diha kung ila ng gibutang diha para maluto na nganong ilaha paman taguan,” Barangay 76A Bucana Chairman, Robert Olanolan, said.

The CSWDO, for its part, said the barangay should have its counterpart in providing food for the fire victims.

“Gabie naay stock pero di pud puro ra noodles atong ipakaon dapat mag initiative ang barangay naa pud silay counterpart kung baga murag nagsalig sila naa tay stock di pud ana kadaghan,” CSWDO Social Work Associate, Lino Salamanca, said. —GMA Regional TV
