A man in Cebu City was arrested after he livestreamed a video that showed him hurting and threatening his little child with a knife.

According to a report on “24 Oras” by Nikko Sereno of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the suspect said he livestreamed the incident to get the attention of his partner, the child’s mother who’s working abroad.

The video was seen by the company for which the suspect worked. Police were then alerted to arrest him.

When the authorities checked the suspect’s phone, they found another video that showed the father repeatedly strangling his child.

At one point, the kid was even thrown at the back of a chair.

Behind bars, the suspect said it was a drama to get his partner’s attention. He denied being on drugs but admitted being drunk.

It has been two months since the mother left the country to work abroad.

The authorities are preparing a complaint for a violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Children Protection Act.

“I love you, lablab ka ni papa. Hindi na siguro tayo magkakasama pa. Sorry talaga ‘nak, ha,” he said.

(I love you. Papa loves you. We probably won’t be together anymore. I’m sorry child.)

The child is now in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 7, where he is scheduled to undergo psychosocial intervention.

“Mayroon tayong psycho-social intervention para dahan-dahan kasi na-traumatize ang bata. Unti-unti ang kanyang healing process,” social worker Mylene Estardo said.

(We have a psycho-social intervention because the child was traumatized. There will be a gradual healing process.)
