A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck east of Surigao del Sur’s Cagwait town on Friday afternoon, a day after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit the same area on Thursday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake’s epicenter was located 08.86°N, 127.11°E – 089 km S 86° E of Cagwait, Surigao Del Sur.
The earthquake struck at 5:28 p.m., was tectonic in origin, and was initially measured at magnitude 5.9.
No damage or aftershocks were expected from the quake.
The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Cagwait and the City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur; and Intensity II in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
It was measured at an Instrumental Intensity III in the City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur; Intensity II in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; and Intensity I in San Francisco, Southern Leyte. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
