A magnitude 5.3 earthquake was reported in New Bataan in Davao de Oro shortly before noon on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

In its report, PHIVOLCS said the earthquake, earlier reported as magnitude 5.1, occurred at 11:33 a.m., was tectonic in origin, and had a depth of focus of 8 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in the following intensities: 

  • Intensity V – New Bataan, Pantukan, Mabini, Nabunturan, and Maco, DAVAO DE ORO
  • Intensity IV – City of Tagum, DAVAO DEL NORTE; City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR
  • Intensity III – Boston, Cateel, Baganga, Manay, and Caraga, DAVAO ORIENTAL
  • Intensity II – City of Mati, Lupon, and Banaybanay, DAVAO ORIENTAL
  • Intensity I – City of Digos and Magsaysay, DAVAO DEL SUR; Tarragona, San Isidro, and Governor Generoso, DAVAO ORIENTAL; CITY OF COTABATO; Cagwait, SURIGAO DEL SUR

It was also felt in the following instrumental intensities:

  • Intensity V – Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO
  • Intensity II – CITY OF DAVAO; City of Digos, DAVAO DEL SUR
  • Intensity I – Matanao, and Magsaysay, DAVAO DEL SUR; Malungon, SARANGANI; Magpet, COTABATO
