For the longest time, William Sy was playing for Jose Rizal University.
He played for seven years in JRU from high school until he moved up to the senior ranks. However, it ended early this year as he decided to part ways with the Heavy Bombers.
Sy, though, found himself in Intramuros as he will join Lyceum of the Philippines University in NCAA Season 101.
For him, it was God’s will that led him to LPU.
“I think it is destiny na nandito ako sa LPU. I know it’s God’s will for me kasi bago ako mapunta ng LPU, wala akong school na pupuntahan talaga,” Sy shared to GMA News Online during the Pirates’ visit for the GMA Masterclass last February 29.
(I think it is destiny that I am here in LPU. I know it’s God’s will for me because before I went to LPU, I really have no school to go to.)
After bidding farewell to JRU, Sy made a leap of faith and started trying out in other schools before he found his way to LPU.
“Nung nagpaalam ako sa JRU, walang teams na interested na kunin ako, even sa pro. Siguro, I trust the plan of the Lord, I trust his plans for me. I prayed to God na whatever happens dito, whatever decision dito, please guide me. He showed me the light, He showed me the path na dapat kong puntahan kaya siguro ako napadpad sa Intramuros.”
“Until now, may goosebumps pa rin, I know this is the plan of the Lord,” he added.
(When I asked permission from JRU, no teams were interested in me, even in the pro. Perhaps, I trust the plan of the Lord, I trust his plans for me. I prayed to God that whatever happens, whatever decision, please guide me. He showed me the light, He showed me the path where I would go that is why I am here in Intramuros.)
With a new found home, Sy said he will not waste the chance given to him by LPU and head coach Gilbert Malabanan.
“Para ‘to sa LPU community. ‘Di ko sasayangin ang chance na binigay nila sa akin.”
“I’m just going to trust the Lord, always pray to God na ‘Lord, alam kong binigay N’yo po sa akin ‘to, ‘di ko po sasayangin.'”
(This is for the LPU community. I will not waste the chance you gave to me. I’m just going to trust the Lord, always pray to God that ‘Lord, I know you gave this to me so I would not waste the chance.)
Sy said he is also thankful to JRU for making a better person out of him.
“Sila ang nag-mold sa akin, they made a better William Sy na napunta rito sa LPU. Sa JRU community, they have a special place in my heart, forever po ‘yan.”
“Mahal na mahal ko po ang JRU.”
(They molded me, they made a better William Sy who is now in LPU. To the JRU community, they have a special place in my heart forever. I love JRU.)
