A bill granting scholarship to persons with disabilities has been filed in the House of Representatives.
CIBAC party-list Representatives Eddie Villanueva made this proposal under his House Bill 10078 or the Scholarship Grants for PWDs Act of 2024 which mandates the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), to provide scholarship grants to PWDs aged 25 and below.
“It is the policy of the State to implement programs and services centered on the needs of PWDs to uplift their quality of life. This bill seeks to provide scholarship grants to PWDs to guide them in their development and make them a contributory factor to economic growth of our society,” Villanueva said in his explanatory note.
“It will be of great help if they are able to obtain a college degree with the help of the government. In view of the foregoing, the passage of this bill is earnestly sought,” he added.
Villanueva’s proposal also states that the amount necessary for the implementation of the measure will be charged against the appropriations for the DepEd and CHED under national budget law.
Villanueva’s proposal was referred to the House panels on Basic Education and Culture and Higher and Technical Education last March 13, the last day of session before Congress adjourned session.
