A grass fire hit Sitio Bongdo in the mountain barangay of Cañang in Oslob town in southern Cebu on Saturday evening, April 6.

The fire was raised to first alarm and was placed under control as of 11:30 p.m., SFO1 Christian Maturan of the Oslob Fire Station told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.

The fire spread quickly because the area is covered by grass that has dried up due to the hot weather.

As of 11:30 p.m., personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) remained in the area.

Raul Alcalde, team leader for operation of the Oslob MDRRMO, says in a separate interview that the challenge of the teams on site is to make sure that the fire will not reach areas where there are houses.

An ambulance was also on standby at the site.
