MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at a commercial building along Malingap street in Barangay Teachers’ Village East in Diliman, Quezon City on Saturday night.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started at 10:29 p.m. and reached first alarm before it was extinguished at 11:12 p.m.
Fire Inspector Miles Valdez of the Quezon City fire department told reporters that employees in a restaurant’s kitchen on the building’s second floor noticed smoke.
“On the second floor the employees were washing dishes when suddenly they noticed smoke under the sink. Then the smoke got thicker and thicker so they called their manager, and they went down the stairs,” Morales said.
He added that there were no casualties or injuries in the fire since all occupants, including those from a residential area in the compound, were evacuated immediately.
Arwind Lacdoo, an employee of the restaurant, told The STAR that they noticed the smoke while they were cleaning the kitchen, claiming it came from a unit on the first floor.
The BFP placed the fire damage at approximately P800,000.
