Filipino Olympian and boxer Eumir Marcial knew the punch he had to use to put Theodsak Sinam away in his homecoming bout last Saturday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
Marcial, who improved his professional boxing record to 5-0 with 3 knockouts, stopped his visiting foe with a left uppercut in round 4. According to Marcial, everything that transpired was according to plan.
“In the first and second rounds, I have been trying that uppercut to the chin instead of the body. I told myself to maintain the jab and there would be to hit him with the uppercut. That was the setup and it was successful,” Marcial explained.
“The plan was to use the jab. When I train in the US my training partners are good with using the jab and it is hard to connect. The knockout will come and we saw me use the jab before the knockout.”
Before the fight, Marcial stated that his latest outing was part of his preparation for the Paris Olympics which is scheduled to run from July 26 to August 11.
