MISINFORMATION ALERT ISSUED
By GISELLE OMBAY, GMA Integrated News
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday warned the public against “fake” social media posts claiming that the agency distributes allowances of up to P5,000 to elementary school students.
DepEd issued a misinformation alert about the posts claiming that the agency gives out a P1,000 “pang baon” for learners of Grade 1; P2,000 for Grade 2; P2,500 for Grade 3; P3,000 for Grade 4; P4,000 for Grade 5; and, P5,000 for Grade 6.
The fake post said the only requirement for the allowance is the school ID of students, due for submission on March 30, 2024.
It also bears a photo of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.
DepEd thus advised parents and guardians not to disclose their children’s school information and identification to avoid compromising their security.
“DepEd reminds everyone to stay vigilant against misinformation,” the DepEd added.
The department also encouraged the public to report any misleading and suspicious information about basic education to depedactioncenter@deped.gov.ph. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
