Guillian Quines made some big shots in the endgame as La Salle Green Hills finally broke out of slump with a hard-fought 85-81 win against Arellano University in the NCAA Season 99 juniors basketball tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The 17-year-old guard broke an 81-all deadlock after completing a three-point play opportunity to give the Greenies a three-point advantage in the final 24 seconds of the fourth quarter.
Arellano’s Seann Franco then attempted a triple shot from the corner but went wide before Arie Porador split his charities to seal the breakthrough victory for the Season 98 runners-up.
Quines, whose basket gave his side an 81-79 lead before Borgy Reguera tied things up, finished with a team-high 22 points alongside six rebounds and four assists as LSGH improved to 1-3. Arellano, on the other hand, slipped to a similar 1-3 card.
Ram Sharma tallied a double-double outing for the Greenies with10 points and 14 rebounds while Ranz Muyuela and Porador chipped in 16 and 10 markers apiece.
In the first game, Mapua University claimed its fourth straight win after eking out another dominant win, this time against Jose Rizal University, 72-57.
Lawrence Mangubat was in his element, churning out 25 points together with five rebounds and two assists while Sean Salvador and Rey Malaga chimed in with nine and eight markers apiece.
The Red Robins, who are looking to bag their first title since 2018, have improved to 4-0 while the Light Bombers dropped to 1-3.
