MANILA, Philippines — Household helpers or kasambahay in Central Luzon will get a salary increase, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced yesterday.
The DOLE said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board issued an order raising the salary of domestic workers by P1,000 in chartered cities and municipalities and P1,500 in other areas in the region.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission affirmed the salary increase, which shall take effect starting next month.
The increase will bring the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers in the region to P6,000.
The wage increase is expected to benefit 126,762 domestic workers in Central Luzon, nine percent or 11,595 of them on live-in arrangement.
The wage board considered the needs of domestic workers as well as the employer’s capacity to pay as well as the existing socioeconomic conditions in the region, the DOLE said.
The last wage order for domestic workers in Central Luzon was implemented in June 2022.
Domestic workers in 13 regions had earlier received an increase in their salary, without formal petitions, according to the DOLE.
Only domestic workers in Central Visayas and Davao have yet to get pay hikes.
