MANILA, Philippines — An American fugitive wanted for fraud was arrested in Cebu on April 3 while attempting to apply for a permanent resident visa, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported yesterday.
The BI said it received an alert about Paul David Cardwell, 57, on March 27 when the American used the bureau’s online services.
Cardwell’s conviction in the United States prompted the BI tourist visa section, headed by Raymond Remigio, to conduct a secondary check, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
The foreigner had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for defrauding a Wyoming hospital of $850,000 or P48 million.
Cardwell will remain in the BI detention facility in Taguig pending his deportation.
