The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed a complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday against the corporate officers and an accountant of a trading company for using fake receipts.
According to the BIR, it filed a complaint for violations of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997 against the corporate officers and the accountant, as well as the owners of the fake businesses.
The BIR said the company used fake receipts by claiming them as part of its cost of sales in 2021.
“This case is particularly deceitful because it was the company accountant who provided a way to get fake receipts,” BIR Commissioner Romeo ”Jun” Lumagui Jr. said.
Lumagui added that the company accountant conspired with her relatives to create fake businesses so the company could use the fake receipts of those businesses to claim expenses. — Joahna Lei Casilao/VBL, GMA Integrated News
