MANILA, Philippines — Five phreatic eruptions have been recorded in Taal Volcano since Friday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the steam-driven eruptions lasted for one to 13 minutes.
The last phreatic eruption was monitored at 10:31 a.m. yesterday.
The event lasted for more than four minutes and produced steam plumes that reached 600 meters and drifted west-northwest.
Plumes that reached 2,400 meters were also observed.
Sulfur dioxide emissions totaled 9,677 tons per day on Thursday.
Phivolcs said 15 volcanic earthquakes were recorded.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which means that it is still in abnormal condition.
Phivolcs warned the public of sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
Entry into Taal Volcano Island, which is a permanent danger zone, especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, remains prohibited.
Pilots are advised to avoid flying close to the volcano.
Taal has been under Alert Level 1 since July 2022.
