Rosegie Ramos became the first Filipino weightlifter and seventh Philippine bet to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after she emerged victorious in the 2024 IWF World Cup that serves as a qualification event.

The Philippine Olympic Committee announced the development as the 20-year-old weightlifter topped the women’s 49kg Group B to punch her ticket to the quadrennial event slated in late July.

Ramos impressed in the qualifiers, capturing 87kgs in snatch and 103kgs in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 190kg to emerge as the best athlete in the category.

Ramos, the cousin of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, now joins other qualified Filipino athletes in EJ Obiena, Carlos Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas.

Ramos is a national team mainstay who have won several medals in various regional and continental events, winning the gold during the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Asian Junior Championships. She also won a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games in 2021.

Aside from Ramos, also set to compete in the world Cup are John Ceniza in men’s 61kg; Diaz and Elreen Ando in women’s 59kg; and Kristen Macrohon and Vanessa Sarno in women’s 71kg.
