Sophomore ace Vince Himzon flexed his might to lead Colegio de San Juan de Letran to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 rout of Jose Rizal University in the NCAA Season 99 men’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Himzon helped the Knights overcome a slow third set start before pulling away for good as they arrested a two-game slide to improve to 2-2 while the Heavy Bombers remained winless at 0-4.
Himzon, the league’s current second best blocker behind San Beda’s Van Book, registered 18 points anchored on 14 attacks, three blocks, and one ace to star in their bounce back win following two consecutive losses to Perpetual and EAC.
Steven Sta. Maria provided the lift with 14 points while John Lorenzo chipped in 14 markers as well.
JRU, who left still searching for its breakthrough, leaned on the duo of Kenneth Daynata and Matthew Miguel, who poured in 13 and 12 points apiece with the former also grabbing three digs and 11 receptions.
The Heavy Bombers is one of the three squads who have yet to barge into the win column alongside Mapua and Lyceum, who both have 0-3 cards.
