The University of the Philippines barged into the win column of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday after taking down University of the East, 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, to cap the first round of eliminations at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Stephanie Bustrillo had 24 points, while Joan Monares and Inah Jaboneta chipped in 12 points apiece as the Fighting Maroons notched its first win in seven games under head coach Oliver Almadro.
Casiey Dongallo had 26 points, while Kayce Balingit had 14 points for the Lady Warriors as they slipped to 1-6.
Earlier, the Far Eastern University defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21.
Chenie Tagaod had 18 points as the Lady Tamaraws ended the first round with a 4-3 card, while Lyann De Guzman paced the Blue Eagles with 14 points as they went down to 2-5.
