A truck driven by an unauthorized driver plowed into seven motorcycles in San Pedro, Laguna.

According to Joseph Morong’s “24 Oras” report, some riders almost got rolled over by the truck. One was hurt in the incident in Barangay San Antonio.

“‘Yung driver ng truck sir inabot nila dun banda, pero huminto naman siya. Nakausap ng PNP,” said Roderick Conde, barangay tanod.

(The police ran after the truck driver, he eventually stopped. The PNP was able to talk to him.)

“Nagsigawan yung mga tao. (Yung mga nabangga) nakahiga lang po sila hindi po nila alam kung ano gagawin po nila,” said Arianne May Solayao, a witness.

(The people who saw the incident were shouting. Those who were hit just lied there, they don’t know what to do.)

Although the driver has a license, he is not authorized to drive a truck, according to Police Senior Master Sergeant Francis Tabile, investigator of San Pedro Police.

“Statement nung driver, sabi niya na imbes na yung preno yung naapakan niya, yung accelerator,” he added.

(Based on the statement of the driver, he said that instead of the brake, he stepped on the accelerator.)

GMA Integrated News was able to speak to the owner of the truck and the driver’s boss but they refused to face the camera and begged not to reveal their names, including the name of the driver who went home to his family due to fear. They said they have already talked to the victims and they have agreed to pay the damages and hospital expenses.

The police confirmed that the victims and the owner of the truck have signed an agreement that no charges will be filed in court.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
