De La Salle University and National University pulled off separate wins against University of the East and Far Eastern University to grab a share of second spot in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Defending champion La Salle eked out a dominant 25-21, 25-18, 25-10 victory against the struggling Lady Red Warriors while the Lady Bulldogs tamed the Lady Tamaraws, 25-17, 13-25, 25-17, 25-20, as they both improved to 3-1 behind league leader University of Santo Tomas (4-0).
UE fell to 1-4 while FEU dropped to 2-3.
Angel Canino showed her prowess anew, pacing the Lady Spikers with a team-high 17 points alongside nine digs and seven excellent receptions, while Thea Gagate and Shevana Laput chimed in with nine markers apiece.
Meanwhile, it was Alyssa Solomon who led the charge for the surging Lady Bulldogs, who have won four games in a row since losing to UST in a sweep fashion in their season opener.
The opposite hitter dropped 25 points anchored on 21 attacks, three blocks, and one service ace while Bella Belen and Vange Alinsug provided the support with 19 and 16 markers each.
