The Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) has issued several tips to avoid falling victim to the hijack profile scam, according to a report on “State of the Nation.”
The “hijack profile scam” occurs when there is an unauthorized access to a social media account and this usually happens to some users of Facebook, which is popular among Filipinos.
Social media users are advised to do the following:
- Don’t just click links in social media
- Don’t just download attachments, especially when these are from strangers
- Use a strong and unique password, so it is not easy to hack your account
- Use multi-factor authentification for all online accounts
- Immediately report hacking incidents to the PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group
