The service provider of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) portal on Wednesday said the two smuggled Bugatti Chiron sports cars, which were both surrendered to the Bureau of Customs (BoC), were not registered under the online Land Transportation Management System (LTMS).

In a statement, the joint venture of Dermalog, Holy Family Printing Corporation and Microgenesis Business Systems or Dermalog JV said that “the Bugatti Chirons flagged down by Senator Raffy Tulfo were not registered with the LTMS.”

“The Bugatti Chirons would not have been able to be registered in LTMS as the robust security features of LTMS would have prevented such registration to occur,” the company said.

Tulfo earlier disclosed that the smuggled luxury cars were registered with the LTO using fake documents from the BOC.

On Wednesday, the owner of the blue Bugatti Chiron luxury car surrendered the vehicle to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS).

The red Bugatti Chiron was previously surrendered by its owner to Customs early this month after the bureau offered cash rewards to informants who can help locate the illegally imported luxury cars estimated to cost around $3 million each.

Demalog JV, meanwhile, said that it will continue to uphold its commitment to excellence by providing state-of-the-art biometric and identification systems.

The company cited its milestones in operating the LTMS, such as issuing 28 million drivers licenses equivalent to about 30,000 a day.

Dermalog JV added it recorded 70,000 to 80,000 motor vehicle registrations a day.

“If the 28 million driver’s license were not issued in LTMS, P1.932 billion in computer fees would have been charged to the driving public,” it said.

“On the other hand, for the 70,000 to 80,000 motor vehicle registrations a day in LTMS, the motoring public has also saved between P3.123 billion to P3.245 billion every year in computer fees,” it added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
