MANILA, Philippines — Three people were injured and at least 300 families were left homeless after a fire razed a shantytown in Quezon City on Tuesday morning.
Donis Mamano, 33; Manny Abayon, 31, and June June Ollala, 19, were treated for lacerations in their hands and feet.
Nette Sumalinog, secretary at the barangay hall of Damayang Lagi, said some 300 families were displaced in the fire that hit a slum area in Islah Noah.
The barangay has four evacuation centers for affected residents, she said in a phone interview.
The city government has sent relief goods to those affected by the fire.
The Bureau of Fire Protection’s National Capital Region field office said the fire started at 10:34 a.m. and reached Task Force Alpha by 11:38 a.m., which means at least 23 fire trucks are needed at the scene.
Firefighters doused the fire at around 1:39 p.m., the BFP said.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
