A special investigation task group (SITG) has been activated to investigate the killing of a balikbayan mother and her daughter in Tayabas, Quezon, the Police Regional Office 4A (PRO 4A) said.

In a statement, PRO 4A chief Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas said the SITG is composed of “seasoned investigators and experts” from different PRO4A units.

Lucas said the task force “will diligently work towards unraveling the truth behind this unfortunate incident.”

The victims were initially reported missing on February 21. Their bodies were found in the backyard of a family member on March 14.

Admitting to the crime, the sister of the elder victim told the police that she and three more suspects, among them her husband, killed the victims by beating and stabbing them.

Tayabas police said the suspect is now under their custody.

She was brought to a hospital after she attempted to commit suicide when she reportedly learned that the bodies of the victims have been found, according to the police.

Lucas ordered the SITG to conduct in-depth profiling of the suspects, expedite the results of the SOCO examination, and perform other tasks to promptly solve the case.

The PRO 4A chief discouraged the public from making speculations and called for their cooperation and support to the ongoing investigation.

“Anyone with relevant information regarding the case is encouraged to come forward and assist us in our efforts to bring justice to the victims and their families,” Lucas said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
