The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday launched “Project Aleng Pulis Everywhere” that ensures the presence of female officers at women’s desks of police stations nationwide.

In his remarks during a flag-raising ceremony at Camp Crame, PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda made the announcement with the celebration of National Women’s Month.

“Today also marks the launch of ‘Project Aleng Pulis Everywhere’ by the Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC),” Acorda said.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to community engagement and proactive policing, aims at fostering a harmonious relationship with the community, and ensuring our continuous nationwide presence,” he added.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing that in some cases, victims hesitated reporting their experiences to male police officers.

“Kapag ang mga kaso po involved ay very sensitive case particularly yung mga pang-aabuso po ay medyo mahihirapan po tayo na makuha yung mga talagang pangyayari kung ang mag-iimbestiga po ay mga kalalakihan,” said Fajardo.

(When the cases involved are very sensitive, particularly abuse cases, it can be difficult for us to find out what really happened if the investigators are men.)

“So sinusuguro po natin na yung ating mga women’s desks are talagang being manned by trained PNP female officers,” she added.

(So we are making sure that our women’s desks are actually manned by trained female PNP officers.)

According to the PNP-WCPC, there are now 2,026 established women’s and children’s desks with 6,311 police personnel across the country.

Last week, the WCPC recorded 355 arrest warrants served and 398 people arrested for crimes against women.

In 2023, the Center said 463 cases were referred to police stations, 141 to family courts, 69 to barangay governments, and 36 to WCPC investigators. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
